One Flew Over the Nurse's Station

When I was 6 years old, I remember my mother taking me to my Pediatrician. I told him then, that one day when I grew up, that I would come back and be his office nurse. What intrigued me the most then, was the smell of alcohol, and seeing these well dressed ladies in starched white uniforms with their white hosiery and shoes and the nursing caps they wore on their heads. I just thought that they were above all else. Little did I know then, just how much knowledge these nurses had, how hard it was to obtain that knowledge and just exactly what they did.

It was not easy starting nursing school while being married and having two teenagers at home. I had to rearrange some personal aspects in my life, prioritize and get organized. I learned throughout that two years that nursing is also about prioritizing and organizing, and becoming adaptable to change. Well I did make it through nursing school and after being in this wonderful field of nursing for 16 years, I feel like I have lost my mind!

I am going back to school! I finally "flew over the nurse's station".
